March has been a very busy month in school. We had our Green School assessment on the 4th. Take a look at our Green School page to see some of the projects we have been working on. The senior classes have been learning all about the 1916 Rising. We studied the Proclamation of Ireland and have come up with our own Proclamation for Ireland in 2016. Local historian Michael Wrafter visited us and told 3rd, 4th ,5th and 6th about local people who were involved in the 1916 Rising and in the war of independence that followed. He brought along some fascinating artifacts for us to look at. On Tuesday 15th March 2016 all schools in Ireland raised the Irish flag to mark the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising. In Castletown we began the celebrations with mass. During the ceremony the Proclamation of 1916 was read out followed by a new Proclamation of Our Generation which was written by the staff and students in the school. Some poems were read as well as a short summary of the life of Eamon Bulfin. Eamon Bulfin was an Irish Republican who raised the Republican flag over the GPO during the rising. After mass his great-grand daughter Ms. Eve Lorigan raised the flag in the school.
