Volcanic Eruptions: Pompeii
Watch the short video on one of histories most famous volcanic eruptions Mount Vesuvius in Italy. It erupted on August 24th 79 AD and buried the city of Pompeii. Think about the following: 1) How do you think the people felt when the eruption started? 2) Why do you think people didn't leave the area when they thought the volcano was going to erupt? 3) What part of the video had the greatest impact on you and explain why. No writing needed for this part, just video or voice record your answers.
History 2 and English: A timeline of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
Watch the information video, pausing when necessary to read the slides. Make sure you have watched the video on The Last Day in Pompeii. Task: Write an explanation, detailing what happened on the 24th August 79 AD in Pompeii. You are writing this from a modern day perspective, so you can include science facts that would not have been known at the time. Remember all of the features of an explanation (if you are still unsure re-watch the video from Tuesday it should be in your journal) Between the video and the powerpoint there is lots of information. I am expecting an introduction (here you can give some background on volcanoes and what we have learned about them). I want 2-3 paragraphs of content and a conclusion. You can include a diagram or pictures to support your explanation. Include a glossary of difficult words.
