Orienteering was a big hit with First & Second class. There was great excitement as they studied the map of the school grounds and located all the points on the map. Huge thanks to Ms. Phelan for organising it ! We have had a very busy month of September in First & Second class. The children have been fantastic following all our new procedures and they have settled back into school life with ease. The weather has been really good and we got outdoors for lots of activities during the month. Well done to all the children doing a wonderful job helping our class bubble to stay safe. Local nature walk, spotting all the signs of autumn...... Some of our fabulous nature based self-portraits ! More to come ..... Hello girls and boys.
Hope you are all well and looking forward to your summer holidays. I hope the weather improves so that we can get outdoors and make the most of our time off. You have done really well over the past few months so enjoy your holidays now. Remember to read for enjoyment during the next couple of months. Have a wonderful summer. You are wonderful children and Ms. Cuddy and myself are looking forward to working with you in September. We are happy that we did the best we could do in these unusual times. Click on the link and let's listen to Pharrell Williams song 'Happy'. I'm sure you all know this one! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Sxv-sUYtM God Bless you all. Slán go fóill, (Bye for now) Ms. Lyons Hello everybody. I hope you all had a lovely weekend.
We are almost finished with school for another year. It’s been one with a difference!! Today is our second last day. We always do lessons on water safety, safety at home and farm safety at this time of the year, and these are the lessons we're doing today. These are very important topics especially during holiday time and we might be spending more time at some of these activities. So please pay attention to these lessons. Thank you. Ms. Lyons Virtual School Tour Day
Today is Virtual School Tour Day! I know you are super excited to see where we are going on our Virtual School Tour. I actually had our tour booked, back in February, for Dublin Zoo so today we will take The Virtual Tour of Dublin Zoo and get to see the different animals as they live in the zoo. Click on the link and travel around Dublin Zoo from the comfort of your own home. Some day we will go and see them in reality!. Enjoy!! https://www.dublinzoo.ie/virtual-tours-2/ As this is a Virtual Tour I’m going to add a few links just for a little bit of variety! I found a link for another zoo in San Diego in America and I’m including that also if you’d like to look at the animals and activities available here. https://kids.sandiegozoo.org/videos Another tour I’m including is ‘Áras an Uachtaráin’ – ‘The House of the President’. It is located in The Phoenix Park in Dublin, quite close to zoo actually. It is where our president, Michael D. Higgins lives and works. We were going to drive past it on the day of our tour. Click on the link to go on the virtual tour of the Áras. https://president.ie/en/childrens-section Finally, I’m including a ‘Virtual Rollercoaster Ride’! I don’t think I’d be brave enough to go on this myself. I think it’s way too high, and way too fast, and just WAY too scary!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWX5IwMaCNE Hope you enjoy the Virtual Tours today. Have a great week-end. Take care everyone. Ms Lyons STEM & LEGO Day I can’t believe its Thursday! Today is STEM & LEGO Day! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and these are subjects that are all connected. I have a few suggestions for you today. Once again I am just providing you with a menu of activities. You choose the ones that interest you most. Tomorrow (Friday) is our Virtual School Tour! I know it’s not the same as actually going on the Tour but it will give you an idea of what to expect when we do go, (sometime in the future). I’m not going to tell you where we are going until tomorrow, that’s a surprise……. but I would like you to be ready with your bag packed. A very important part of any tour, virtual or reality, is treats!!! You have to have treats ready in the bag so get that sorted this evening – maybe a drink and packet of crisps, some fruit, a bar of chocolate and some sweets. Ok! I just want you to be prepared so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your very first ‘Virtual School Tour!!’ These are the suggestions for today........ Stem activities: Melting ice-cubes: (Activity sheet attached) Look at the activity card on Melting Ice-cubes. Gather the equipment you need. Follow the instructions and observe what happens. Bouncing Balls: (Activity sheet attached) When these two balls fall a meter and land on a slab where will the tennis ball go? Mystery Science Mini Lesson - Why is the Ocean Salty? Creative Day Hello everybody. Hope you all enjoyed the Virtual Sports Day yesterday. I really enjoyed the day. Thank you for sending the brilliant pictures and videos and lovely messages also. You all seemed to be really enjoying the day. Thank God, the weather stayed dry too. Today is Creative Day! This will come naturally to all of you because you are just that…. Creative! I have a few suggestions for you to be creative with and if you have something creative of your own feel free to include that. Once again I am just providing you with a menu to choose from, you certainly don’t have to do everything but you can if you choose to! If you would like to send in pictures of your creations I'd love to see them. My e-mail is mslenoralyons@gmail.com The Cup Game The cup game goes along with the cup song. Click on the following link and follow the instructions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5kYLOb6i5I Now click on the following link and listen to The Cup Song. Join in doing the actions with your plastic cup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmSbXsFE3l8 Create a creature from a poem! (Poem attached below) Read the poem 'The Triantiwontigongolope' a couple of times. Imagine and think to yourself what this creature or insect actually looks like. Your challenge is to draw your very own triantiwontigongolope! Be inventive, imaginative and wild with your creation and have fun with it. Remember it doesn't exist .........yet! Pictures from natural materials (Samples attached below) Create a piece of art using ONLY items you can find outside – this might be in your garden or something you can do on your daily walk. Get outside and get creative! Make a Wordle about 'You' (example attached below) Look at the example of a wordle. Now write your name in big letters on a sheet of paper and then write out a list of words that describe yourself and your interests. The list might include words that describe your personality such as happy, funny, giddy and words that describe things you like doing, for example, baking drawing, hurling, camogie. Write any words that are relevant to you and include as many as you like. Use your favourite colours. You are all amazing, so include that word. Read back over it and see the wonderful qualities you have. These are all the things that make you, YOU. Chalk Picture (see sample attached) Click on the following link to see some fantastic chalk pictures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G3xoYF5e9Y Draw a chalk picture on the ground and get someone to take a photo of you in the picture. Have a wonderfully creative day! Take care everyone. Ms Lyons

Hello everybody. Hope you had a lovely weekend. This is Fun Week! Today is ‘Music and Dance Day’. I am including a variety of music and dance links on Seesaw and here. You can choose which ones you would like to listen/dance to. Hope you enjoy them! Music The music is to listen to and enjoy. I am attaching the words of the songs below so you can sing along if you wish to. I am also including a basic lesson on playing the spoons, if you’d like to try that out or just have a look at it. Song 1: Kodaline's 'Saving Grace'. At the start of lockdown they asked people to send in images of what they were doing to pass the time and the video shows some of the clips they received. Hope you enjoy it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGYa8KuoTqA Song 2: Maroon 5 sing the song 'Memories'. This is a cover of that song, sung here by One Voice Children's choir. This choir is an American children's choir. Their songs share positive, uplifting, and inspirational messages. Have a listen to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XB6yjGVuzVo&feature=youtu.be Song 3: 'From a Distance' is sung here by Nancy Griffith. This song is about the difference between how things appear to be and how they really are. This is very true to life at this time. At the beginning, being in lock-down at home appeared impossible - no activities to go to, no going to school , no mass, no play-dates. How could we get through this? We now realize it is possible to do these things, all be it in a different way! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCzORgC1NpM&feature=youtu.be Song 4: Our last song today is 'Lovely Laois' sung by Trudi Lalor. Some of the video is recorded at the river Nore in Castletown. Isn't it nice to know our village is part of 'Lovely Laois!' Sing along with the chorus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR7noByAIkA Playing the spoons: We all have spoons in the kitchen so this is something we can all try, if you want to. Click on the link and learn how to play the spoons. Try not to hurt your fingers and legs!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0Tp8-NjsvM Dance Just Dance - 'The Final Countdown' Click and watch the dance moves to 'The Final Countdown' Join in the moves. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfY4yI1fMkY&feature=youtu.be Hip Hop Dance Fun 2B Fit dance is a great way to get fit while moving to music. Give it a go today.
